Description
Eriobotrya japonica or Loquat tree has a beautiful scent. It produces small, white petals with white leaves that last from winter through to spring, which grow in panicles of 3-5. Leaves are broad and roughly 20 cm in length and are green all year round, with a brown, felted underside. Although its fruit seldom ripens in the UK, its yellow and orange produce is eye-catching.
Eriobotrya japonica is originally from Asia where the fruits ripen in winter to early spring and, when peeled, reveals a fleshy sweet-to-acidic fruit. The loquat tree grows to a broad, rounded large shrub with mature trees being as wide as they are broad. Ideally suited to small gardens. Hardy in most of the UK.
